Runaway Bride
If you’ve watched the news this past week, then you’ve probably heard the story of Jennifer Wilbanks.
She had disappeared 4 days before her wedding after going on a jog. Of course, the US media jumped on this story as they always do. People thought that had been kidnapped and an investigation looking into her disappearance had started. As it was later revealed, she wasn’t kidnapped but instead, she had gotten cold feet from the wedding and decided to run away to New Mexico. You’d think that the media would just stop reporting about this, right? Think again, it’s been three days and this is still in the news. I could care less about Jennifer Wilbanks and whatever charges they are going to press. Helas, my guess is that we’ll be seeing more of these runaway bride stories to which point we’ll be thinking that runaway brides or grooms is a very common phenomenon and that it will almost certainly happen to you if you’re going to get married.
The US media are constantly reporting on stories that have no importance or significance to individuals. It was the same with Terry Schiavo and with the Pope elections. Meanwhile, important issues are being ignored. This is exactly why I hate watching the news. There is so much crap on the news that it’s not even funny anymore.
It has been more than 3 weeks since I’ve published this article and I’m still seeing stuff about the runaway bride in the news. Why, why, why? The news media is absurd here and they don’t deserve their title of news media.
